Join National Ski Patrol: Where Passion Meets Purpose

Are you passionate about skiing, snowboarding, cycling and mountain safety? Do you want to make a difference while enjoying the outdoors? National Ski Patrol (NSP) invites you to join our dedicated community of volunteers, professional patrollers and hosts committed to promoting safety and providing emergency care on the mountain.
As a candidate, you'll undergo extensive training to prepare you for the responsibilities of a patroller or host. Training includes both on-the-hill and off-the-hill components, covering topics such as first aid (OFC), outdoor emergency care (OEC), toboggan handling, and risk management. Training typically occurs over several weeks or months, depending on your patrol’s schedule
Learn About NSP
Start by exploring what it means to be a member of NSP. Peruse our website and social media channels, check out member benefits, watch introductory videos, and read about the experiences of current members. Familiarize yourself with our values and the role we play in ski areas across the country.

Step 1:  Find & Contact a Local NSP Patrol or Unit

NSP is organized into divisions, regions and local patrols. Find your nearest patrol or unit through our search function, here. Reach out to them to express your interest in joining. They’ll provide you with information about their specific needs, training schedules, and any prerequisites. Be sure to read your local patrol’s website to learn more!

Many local patrols offer orientation sessions or “ski with days,” where you can meet current patrollers or hosts, learn more about the expectations, and ask any questions you might have. This is a great opportunity to see if the NSP is a good fit for you. If selected, they will direct you to create an account.

Step 2: Create a National Ski Patrol Account

Once you've gotten the go ahead from your local patrol, you’ll need to register as a candidate on our website. This involves creating an account and profile. You will receive a member number in your email after you create an account.  Provide this number to your patrol or mountain host leader so they can add you to their patrol/unit roster.

Step 3: Pay Your Annual Dues

You'll receive an email when you’ve been added to a patrol/unit roster. It will contain a link to complete your registration. Follow that link, or log in to www.nsp.org using your established credentials, and click here if you are registering as a Candidate for a patrol, or here if you are registering with a Mountain Host unit to complete your profile and pay your dues.

Step 4: Enroll in Your Required Courses

After you’ve paid your dues, you can register for your Outdoor Emergency Care or Outdoor First Care courses through the Center for Learning.

Step 5: Begin Your Patrolling or Host Experience

Once certified, you’ll officially become a member of the National Ski Patrol! You’ll start patrolling or hosting at your local ski area. You'll continue to learn and grow, participating in ongoing training and professional development.

Step 6: Stay Connected and Get Involved

NSP is more than just a volunteer and career opportunity—it’s a community. Stay connected through regional events, national conferences, and our newsletters. Get involved in leadership roles, special projects, or as a mentor for new candidates. Be sure to tap into all your benefits too. Your journey with NSP is just beginning!
