Patrol Director Gore Mountain

General 
The Patrol Director is part of the Ski Patrol team at Gore Mountain who reports to the Operations Manager. This individual must be an expert skier or rider, proficient in snowmobile operations, possess Outdoor Emergency Care Certificate through NSP, be a First Aid/CPR/AED instructor and be able to lift a 200-pound patient into a rescue sled with assistance. The Ski Patrol Director has strong, positive communication skills in dealing with other employees and guests of Gore Mountain. and demonstrates the ability to enhance a team-oriented culture and collaborative attitude with all departments at the mountain.  

The Operations Manager and/or management may request miscellaneous support duties to support the overall responsibilities of the patrol department and mountain operations. Occasional travel may occur and weekend and holiday work are required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Principle Duties
Scheduling and organization of annual training specific to Ski Patrol and all other mandatory employment training.
Responsible for scheduling of paid and volunteer staff to ensure that patrol coverage is sufficient for estimated visits and conditions and that patrol staffing levels are scheduled for an entire season
Responsible for the successful recruitment and training efforts to grow pool of qualified ski patrol candidates
Develop, revise, and distribute all ski patrol and emergency policies and procedures and ensure thorough supervision of staff and the proper and adequate understanding and compliance
Be the lead role in all emergencies, including but not limited to standard lift evacuations, Gondola evacuations, and major trauma incidents.
Provide up-to-date training and organization of Gondola evacuation staff every season. 
Manage and enforce the Olympic Authority guest risk management plan.
Conduct and oversee all incident investigations and reporting Gore Mountain Management and the Olympic Authority Risk Manager.
In addition to safety and risk management, manage department and staff to promote their roles as safety ambassadors, hosts, guides, and information centers, ensuring the staff engages with guests to maintain a high level of guest experience on the mountain
Manage and oversee all equipment used for lift evacuation and maintain document usage and history.
Routinely is on-mountain before daily opening to assess mountain conditions and make recommendations and adjustments as required to mitigate risk and provide quality on-snow experience for guests
Daily terrain opening and closing with constant assessment and evaluations throughout the day, including on-mountain department collaboration with Mountain Hosts and Terrain Park Staff
Manage maintenance of all equipment for lift evacuations and low-angle rescue training on a semiannual or as-used basis.
Timely coordinate all training regarding blood-borne pathogens, First Aid/CPR/AED usage for all departments annually.
Oversee all required training, certifications, re-certifications, refreshers, and other trainings associated with ski patrol, first aid, and other emergency work
Effectively coordinate all pre/post-season preparations and break-down.
Report to Management on terrain availability and viability.
Manage Rookie training program.
Oversee the completion of pre-season setup, in-season maintenance, a post-season teardown of mountain slopes and trails, building supplies, and other areas used for ski patrol operations.
Responsible for interacting with guidance from the Administration Risk Manager “Fit to Work” review for all patrollers.
Responsible for knowing the department budget items and constraints, and responsible for the operation of the department within the budget constraints regarding supplies and labor
Oversee and ensure completion of all patient care records and files. Ensure completion of proper documentation of incidents and accident investigations.
Ensure that Ski Patrol adheres to HIPA regulations.
Leads and conducts investigation of ski and on-premises incidents as directed by the venue General Manager and Risk Manager.
Maintain incident data to identify incident statistics and trends.
Assist the Mountain Operations Manager in all other duties as required.
Implement ongoing OEC training program for Trail Crew employees and volunteers.
Provide oversight with the Operations Manager of daily mountain operations as well as pre- and post-season set-up and tear-down including but not limited to marking hazards and implementing plan to manage the available terrain for the day.
Assist in the supervision of all Patrol staff to ensure the highest quality of care to guests.
Act as medical on duty on weekends throughout summer operations.

b. Risk Management 
Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of other employees.
Ensure that all ski patrol employees follow all procedures documented in ORDA Guest Risk Management Plan.
Develop and enforce the following of JHAs for all tasks.
Educate staff on how to perform tasks, create new JHAs for any new tasks, and review and update JHAs as needed.
Maintain a safe environment for all employees and guests by timely reporting any known or potential unsafe conditions or situations to Patrol Director and Management.
Be an ambassador of safety to all employees and guests by participating in all safety initiatives and participating in venue and organizational safety meetings.
Timely and accurately report all injuries and near misses that occur while on the job.
Educate staff on safe work practices by conducting pre-shift meetings and toolbox talks daily.
Correct and eliminate unsafe work practices when observed, by coaching employees.
Document unsafe work practices by employees and the corrective action to correct the unsafe work practices.
Complete employee incident reports and RCA on a timely basis.
Prepare yearly budget as well as plan off-season capital improvement projects.
Perform daily safety meetings with staff.
Write requisitions for purchases needed following the NYS purchasing policy as supplies are needed.
Safely operate a snowmobile and other vehicles

Skills and Qualifications
Significant Ski Patrol experience
3 Years’ experience in Supervisory position 
Current Outdoor Emergency Care certification
Current member of the National Ski Patrol
Current CPR/AED certification and Instructor 
Expert-level skier or rider
Valid Drivers License 
Lift with assistance a 200-pound patient into a rescue sled
Team oriented 
Positive communication skills
