2010-2011 Board of Directors
Election
Call for Candidates
We need your help!
In the search for qualified
candidates to serve on the NSP Board of Directors, we are looking for
individuals with true executive leadership and managerial experience (business,
military or ski industry).
Board
membership is a noble service, and every NSP member is encouraged to
participate in the process, either by applying themselves, or encouraging a
qualified fellow member to apply to become a candidate for one of the seats
coming up for election.
Being a board member has benefits
far beyond those that accrue to the NSP. When you invest your time, wisdom,
patience and energy to be an exemplary board member, you have the power to
impact the NSP and the skiing community. You strengthen the capacity of the
NSP, thereby increasing its ability to serve the skiing public.
The board member is one who draws
on his or her own gifts and talents willingly, who offers his or her network of
contacts appropriately, who thinks beyond the boundaries when confronted with a
challenge, yet thinks procedurally when the NSP needs to steady its course.
Completed applications must be submitted to the
Nomination Committee by 4:00 p.m. MDT, June 1, 2010. A link to the application form can be found on
the Member News section of the website.
SPECIFIC NEEDS
FOR THE BOARD 2010/2011
Each
election, a "List of Needs" is formulated by the Board of Directors
with input from the Division Directors and modified by the nominating committee
to target certain candidate pools from which to draw the Board Members in an
effort to match the needs of the organization. This election, the following
primary and secondary "List of Needs" has been formulated:
Primary Needs
Ø
Leadership:
Members are needed that have nonprofit organization
leadership experience. Good organizational skills, team-building skills, and constructive
leadership to motivate and energize the membership are sought. Candidates with true executive leadership
and managerial experience (business, military or ski industry) are desired.
Ø Education:
Members are sought with past experience in education programs whose service has
shown a high standard of leadership and guidance in the development and
delivery of quality NSP and other education programs.
Ø Marketing:
Members are sought to direct the marketing of the NSP brand and, through public
relations, keep the NSP in the forefront as the premier provider of all its
education programs.
Ø
Finance and Fund Raising: Members who have
backgrounds in finance, tax law and accounting are needed. Managers familiar
with spreadsheets, accounting procedures and documents, and creating and following
budgets are desired. Fundraising experience is recommended, either in
conjunction with finance skills or as a separate skill.
Secondary Needs
Ø
Communication: Candidates are required with good
writing and communication skills, and the ability to speak at gatherings both
large and small, in order to publish and spread the ideas, ideals, mission and
work of the NSP to its members, customers and the general public.
Ø
Quality Management: Members with skills in
quality management and a history of supervising quality within the ranks of the
NSP or in other forums are sought. Holders of the position of Instructor Trainer
are important to fulfill this need.
Ø
Governance: Leaders
and policy makers are needed to help formulate the policies and procedures of
the National Ski Patrol and also to govern the organization. A working
knowledge of the legal documents of the NSP is most helpful in this area, and
accountants, politicians, government employees, lawyers and military officers
are sought to fill this need.
Ø
Strategic Thinkers: We are seeking those who are
able to think beyond the borders of the normal and customary situation to
arrive at new and novel solutions, who are able to see broad plans and the
larger picture, and who are able to keep focused on a goal some years in the
future while solving today's problems.
Ø
Technology: Members
with skills in the fields of computers, collaboration, communication systems,
accounting systems, publication, and all current and new forms of knowledge
management and research storage and retrieval are needed.
